Faithless

Sally and I went to Alexandra Palace last night to see Faithless in concert. It was an excellent night, and we both enjoyed the gig.

I only had my camera phone with me, so the pictures haven't turned out that great. But they do look kind of "Rock and Roll" :-).

We weren't too sure about the support acts. The first band were called Out Hud. They started off a little shakey, but that was probably more down to the sound technicians than them. They had a electric cello, which was cool, and one of the guys was so high energy it was funny. He definately brought a new meaning to "full body dance".

About this point, I managed to blag a spot for us on the disabled platform - pregnancy is the Universal Excusetm. This meant we got seats, a great view, and a comparably huge amount of room to dance like mad people. All in all a good idea...

Second up were a band called Infadels - who were a bit crap really. Sally and I came up with the term "metal ska electro fusion" for them, which is a nice way of saying a failed attempt to mix breakbeats, heavy guitars, acid, and black suited bold people. The lead singer did like to pelvic thrust his mike stand, too.

However, the main act was awesome, as expected. All the favourites were in their set, including "Insomnia", "We Come One", "Weapon of Mass Destruction", "Salva Mea", and "God is a DJ". "Insomnia" was the first track to really get the crowd jumping, and the disabled platform was no exception. All able bodied people found the need to go wild, and even those on crutches hobbled in time.

Much respect has to go to the much older couple who also shared the platform with us - and still found it in themselves to wave their arms and pogo like the young 'uns.

By 1 am, Sally was feeling tired, and less able to boogie down to Faithless' last track "Salva Mea". Unfortunatley, we then had a bit of a nightmare journey home. It took us 45 minutes to get a coach down to Wood Green. We then ended up taking a random journey on the N91 night bus, heading somewhere towards central London.

In then took us a good 45 minutes, to walk to Oxford Street, and down to Marble Arch at the other end. It didn't help that we were almost walking backwards trying to hail a non existant taxi. The highlight of this two and a half hour marathon through north London was the chips we bought on Oxford Street at 3:30am. Sally swears they were the best chips she has ever tasted. I think the circumstances had something to do with it.

We arrived, tired, at our house at 5:45am - and collapsed. The sun had come up, and people were singing on Magdelen bridge.

A good night out though.
